I recognise that there will be a lot of people on here with a much greater idea of what they are doing in this field. I got this lathe at 13 years old when my dad and I thought it would be a great way to do some projects together. Unfortunately that didn’t amount to much over the years and it has sat in storage for the last 15 years.
I have now moved it to my new home and hope to get it up and running again. Everything so far is working well but I have an issue with the headstock. When I put the drive centre (pictured below) into the headstock. It sits loose. From what I gather, the reason for this is that I am missing an MT2 to MT1 reducer sleeve. I have ordered one on amazon that will arrive tomorrow hoping that this will solve it but I don’t have a lot of confidence in my own diagnostic attempt on the problem.
What morse taper is the tail stock because usually both the head stock and tail stock are the same, but on saying that looking at the head stock spindle in the first photo I noticed a knurled collar with a hole in the side of the collar, what I’m thinking is do you slacken off the knurled collar by inserting a metal bar into the hole then insert the morse taper and retighten the knurled collar locking the morse taper in place.
That chuck you have is for the mortise chisels which you need to remove by unscrewing it. The MT1 taper can then be seen in the headstock (HS). To remove tapered items fitted in the head stock you use a long rod from the the opposite end of the HS and gently tap with a hammer
