Hi, drilled out a few blanks today and now the quill won’t move. I don’t want to force it, so any advice?
It’s an Axminster AW205WL , hopefully I have attached a photo
That’s a tough one. On those Axminster lathes, the quill can bind up if a bit of fine dust or pitch works its way in. I’d start with a good clean and a light oiling before forcing anything. Sometimes backing the handwheel all the way out and checking the return spring helps too.
Thank you, i talked to Axminster customer services, and it was returned and fixed (very speedily) by them: confused the life out of them as it really was not moving at all. But all good now thanks.
Good that you got it fixed. I have been using up to 100 mm forsner bits on my lathe and my quill was sticking. I removed the hand wheel compleatly removed the quill
Gleaned and greased refitted good as new.
Just as a tip a have a thin bottle brush that i clean the centre of both head and tail stock. Its small enough to pass through the quill. removed the gunk lol
