Hi there everyone…
I have just bought a used TSCE-12R Industrial Table Saw, it has a 2.2kw motor and runs on my 16Amp ring in the workshop… After upgrading the breaker switch in the main circuit board for the workshop it runs fine…
Although, i feel like the motor is under powered and im a bit underwhelmed at the performance… Has anyone else had this issue? I ran some 18mm oak through it the other day and it struggled about 500mm through the cut… With an “Industrial” saw with a 2.2kw motor, I wouldnt have expected to suffer from this…
Anyone else suffered? Anyone know of a solution? Do i need a new motor? Is my motor on the way out?
Thanks for any advice and heads up…
Craig
Hi, if the motor starts and runs with no noises, excessive heat build-up and doesn’t smell then I would guess that it’s OK. A good electrician would be able to measure it’s current draw which would indicate it’s health.
I would also look carefully at the blade, is it suitable for the type of cuts you are doing, i.e. rip or crosscut? Blades made for one type of cut may not work well for other cuts. Also, check the blade spindle drive belt for condition and tension.
If all is well this saw is a great performer, it’s been sold by Axminster for many years, and has a great reputation for performance and build quality.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated…
I have spoken to a sparky mate who is going to come this week and check the draw of the motor and hopefully give me an idea of the condition of that… I will also check tension etc on belts.
The blade is a brand new TREND Rip cutting blade, so would like to think that should be ok…
How much tension ideally would be in the belts, alot? Tight? Pardon my ignorance, in mot mechanically minded…
Many thanks
Craig
Hi Craig,
The belt should be quite tight, i.e. if you push the belt inwards along its longest side it should deflect about 5mm?
I would also check the kerf width of the blade, Trend do a 24T 2.8mm blade which if this is what you have may be a little narrow for your riving knife. The blade should be slightly wider than the knife. I think the normal blade widrh for this machine is 3.2mm, with a 3mm riving knife.
Hope this helps,
Keith
