I bought a new Axminster lathe and chose to take up the offer of a 3 hour woodturning session. I live miles away from any Axminster store so I waited until I was visiting my parents in Andover so that I could go to the Basingstoke outlet. Well, I’m so glad that I did! I was greeted upon arrival by Anna-Marie. She was brilliant. She was very patient with me, and showed me some new (to me) methods of making beads and hollowing out tall vases. She didn’t laugh when I showed her my motley selection of tools, but gently took me over to the tool display and made some gentle suggestions. I had quite a lot to ask, and even when the three hours was up, she continued to show me different finishing methods. She also showed me some dust extraction machines, and demonstrated and let me try a respirator. All in all it was a superb session, and I can’t thank Anna-Marie enough. I’m going to try and get to one of her demonstrations and try and glean some more methods of improvement.
