Swapping out the NVR switch for a rocker switch

Hi.

I have the AP60E dust extractor. It has an NVR switch on it which prevents me being able to switch it on and off remotely. To fix this I was going to replace the NVR switch with a rocker switch.

I looked inside the NVR switch and it’s a 16A switch with 4 pins. Live and neutral from the power lead to 2 of the pins and then two black wires out of the other two pins which go to the motor. There’s also an earth from the power lead to the casing. Axminster’s technical support say the switch I picked will work.

I’m not an electrician, and my electrician is hesitant to do the replacement because he’s bound by certain regulations. So can anyone help assure me I’m ok to just unplug the machine, swap the wires on to the pins of the rocker switch and hey presto?

I think there’s also a capacitor on the motor. Do I need to make sure I do this in a certain way so as not to discharge it?

Thanks

I have a similar predicament and have been looking into this, I wanted a remote control switch, but ran into a few issues.. Having done some research, I think there are 2 types of NVR, sounds like you have a 4 wire which is more difficult than a 3. There are NVR replacement kits available online but they seem prohibitively expensive… Ive seen some good youtube vids on replacing ti and wiring diagrams are plentiful if that helps… If you cannot replace your NVR with a normal switch (which I suspect you may not) you could consider extending the cable so teh NVR swicth is in a more convienet position- let me know how you get on… I woudl eb interested.
